Broad Campden -Large Ground Array in AONB

Client Brief:

The client required a high-performance solar and battery solution to deliver long term energy reliability while significantly reducing electricity costs.

Due to the property being Grade I listed and situated within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), roof-mounted solar installations were not permitted. The challenge was to design a system that complied with strict planning constraints while still meeting the client’s energy demands.

Project Design & Final Configuration:

Following a detailed site survey, a ground-mounted solar array was identified as the optimal solution. The system was carefully integrated into the garden to minimise visual impact, with an external cabinet installed to house the battery storage and associated equipment.

Final system configuration:

  • 98 × Perlight NTA Double Glass 455W solar panels
  • 3 × 10 kW SolarEdge Home Hub inverters
  • 3 × 13.8 kWh battery storage units

Due to local DNO (Distribution Network Operator) constraints, export capacity was limited to 25 kWh

Impact & Results:

  • Over 27,000 kWh of clean energy generated since installation
  • Approximately 65% of generated energy exported back to the grid
  • 88% reduction in grid reliance, with just 22% of electricity imported over the first 11 months.

This solution successfully balanced planning restrictions with performance, delivering substantial cost savings and long-term energy independence for the client.
